Acaponeta may be a each a municipality and a city within the northern a part of the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population of the municipality was thirty four,665 within the 2005 census, living during a total space of one,667.7 km² (643.9 sq mi). The population of the municipal seat was eighteen,066, the fifth-largest community within the state (after Tepic, Xalisco, Ixtlán del Río, and Tuxpan). The Acaponeta stream flows through the city.
Acaponeta means that, “Place close to the stream wherever the bean tangled within the reed grows”; that is created by change of integrity the interpretation of the Tepehuano word Acaponeta (Caponeta) which implies, “place close to the river”; and therefore the Nahuatl Acatl-pol-etl-tlan, which implies, “place wherever the bean tangled within the reed grows”.
