Holy Name of the Nazarene Catholic Church in metropolis may be a parish of the bishopric of metropolis in metropolis, California, one among four Catholic churches in San Francisco’s Sunset District. The church is distinctive owing to its trendy design and enormous size, and may be seen up hill from close Ocean Beach.
The parish was established in 1925 with Father Richard J. Ryan as its 1st pastor. A short lived structure served because the 1st church in 1926. Growth of the parish forced a replacement building to be created and engineered at the corner of Lawton Street and fortieth Avenue. Conjointly being engineered was a parish faculty. Each facilities opened in 1941. The parish continuing to grow, and therefore the faculty was expanded to accommodate a complete of 800 students.
With continuing growth of the parish, a replacement church was necessary. In 1964, this Holy Name church was engineered. To form area for this church, the vicarage building had to virtually be raised off of its foundation, loaded onto a truck, and affected across the road. With the new church in situ, the recent church was reborn into a gymnasium/auditorium, named Ryan Hall once the parish’s 1st pastor. Today, the parish and faculty continues to serve the individuals of the Sunset.
