First Presbyterian Church, set at 554 McCallie Avenue, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is AN historic, downtown congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA} and also the initial Christian congregation supported in Chattanooga. Initial Presbyterian Church began in 1838 by missionaries of the David Brainard Mission. It was, at first, a mission to the Cherokee Indians.
After the “Trail of Tears” the missionaries came back to Chattanooga and commenced to figure among land, Scots-Irish, and Welsh within the community and helped plant what became called the primary Presbyterian Church. Through the years, the congregation grew and its gift building was dedicated in 1910. There are 13 pastors of the church with such notable priesthood as Thomas McCallie {whose sons supported The McCallie School), dessert apple Bachman (former Confederate reverend, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church within the us, 1910), James Fowle, and mount Haden.
Michael A.
