Roatan, placed between the islands of Utila and Guanaja, is that the largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands. The island was erst called Ruatan and Rattan. It’s some sixty kilometres (37 The island consists of 2 municipalities (out of a complete of 4 within the department): Jose urban center Guardiola within the east (named for the previous president of Honduras) and Roatan (also together with the Cayos Cochinos) more south within the west.
