Devanahalli Fort was built in 1501 by Mallabairegowda and later came under the possession of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. In fact, the present fort made of stones, was built by Hyder Ali. The fort has 12 semi-circular bastions at regular intervals. The entrances, decorated with plaster work, are quite small spacious enough for the horses to pass through. The birthplace of Tipu Sultan is located near the Devanahalli Fort. A plaque has been erected in an enclosure to inform the visitors this fact. Also, the house in which Hyder Ali and Tipu had lived can also be seen here. Khas Bagh, the area surrounding the enclosure, has a dried up stone pond as well as some banana, tamarind and mango plantations. A few temples like the Venugopalaswamy temple, Siddalingeshwara temple, Chandramouleshwara Temple and Nanjundeshwara temple are also present inside the fort.
