Osoyoos could be a city within the southern a part of the Okanagan depression in British Columbia close to the border with Washington state. The city is additionally adjacent to the Indian Reserve of the Osoyoos Indian Band. The origin of the name Osoyoos was the word suius that means “narrowing of the waters” within the native Okanagan language (Syilx’tsn). The “O-” prefix isn’t autochthonal in origin and was connected by settler-promoters desperate to harmonize the name with different O-names within the Okanagan region (Oliver, Omak, Oroville, Okanagan).[citation needed]
