Laie may be a census-designated place (CDP) settled within the Koolauloa District on the island of island in Hawaiian capital County, Hawaii, u. S.. The history of Laie begins long before initial contact. The name Laie is claimed to derive from 2 Hawaiian words: lau which means “leaf”, and that is concerning the ieie (red-spiked rising screwpine, Freycinetia arborea), that wreaths forest trees of the uplands or mauka regions of the mountains of the Koolau vary behind the community of Laie. In Hawaiian mythology, this red-spiked rising screwpine is sacred to Kane, god of the world, god of life, and god of the forests, also on Laka, the patron immortal of the rain dance.
