The first English settlement on the West Bank of the mouth of the Pequonnock stream was created somewhere between 1639 and 1665 and was referred to as Pequonnock. The village was renamed Newfield someday before 1777. A lot of individuals settled any interior and to the West and therefore the space formally became called Stratfield in 1701, probably because of its location between the already existing cities of Stratford and Fairfield.
