Detail InformationEdit
Golf Course at Gulmarg was formally inaugurated on 18th of September, 2011 by the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Omar Abdullah (now the longest course in the country at 7505 yards). Ranjit Nanda & associates redesigned this golf course that is carved out within a meadow & that has at least 16 different species of wild flowers. The flowers are in full bloom from about the middle of June till early September. The 18 hole championship course is a stern test of golf from the back tees and measures 7505 yards with a Par of 72.
It has the longest dual sided driving range in the country of over 600 yards with target greens to aim at from both sides. There is a large practice green at the Clubhouse too. A golf academy with 3 learning holes is also part of the concept. The greens on the course are large, undulating and very quick with a stimp -meter reading of 10 + feet on regular days. The greens have been designed to fit into the natural landscape with undulations and contours merging with the surrounding areas. In order to prevent erosion, some bunkers have unique wooden sleeper faces. There are a number of bunkers on the course that have been designed to ‘fit’ into the natural character of the course. The grass on the greens is A-4 Creeping Bent imported from the United States. It is potentially one of the finest summer golfing destinations in the world.
