First settled by trappers and traders in 1818, Springfield was originally named as Calhoun. Owing to a fertile soil and mercantilism opportunities, it presently became the seat of Sangamon County luring settlers from Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina. By 1832 Calhoun renamed itself as Springfield, and was far-famed for industrial innovation, focused prosperity and therefore the Springfield Armory.
Largely, owing to the efforts of Lincoln and his associates, Springfield became the third and current capital of Illinois in 1839. Lincoln captive to Springfield in 1837, and spent consequent twenty four years here as a crucial attorney and politician till he became the President and captive to the White House in 1861. Although he wasn’t born here, Lincoln is that the most celebrated resident of Springfield with many tourer attractions and historic sites in a way or the opposite connecting with him.
