The South geographical region State depository, set in Columbia, South geographical region, is that the largest depository within the Southeastern us. Positioned on Associate in Nursing recent shipping canal on the Congaree stream that dates back to pre-Civil War times, the depository is widely known as a resource for South geographical region history and modus vivendi. The depository opened October twenty nine, 1988 and is housed in what it calls its largest whole, the previous Columbia Mills Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The depository represents four disciplines: art, cultural history, science and technology, and explanation. Exhibits embody life-size replicas of the most effective Friend of Charleston, the primary American-built locomotive, and the H.L. Hunley, the primary submarine to sink Associate in Nursing enemy ship in combat. The second floor is notable for its recreation of a Megalodon suspended mid-air simply around a corner, that has afraid myriad teams of young kids.
