Shamokin Dam could be a tiny borough in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, u. S.. The name comes from a 10-foot-tall (3.0 m) dam that was designed across the Susquehanna River within the nineteenth century. The dam supported boat ferries surpass Ira T. Clement, that transported merchandise and folks between Shamokin Dam and also the town of Sunbury on the county County aspect of the watercourse. These ferries operated from 1772 till the Bainbridge Street Bridge was in-built 1907. The dam additionally provided water to the Susquehanna Division of the Pennsylvania Canal System that was created on the western bank of the watercourse. The dam was destroyed by ice in March 1904.
