Congregation Chasam Sopher is associate Orthodox place of worship situated at ten Clinton Street on the Lower side of Manhattan. It had been fashioned in 1892 by the merger of 2 congregations of immigrants from Polska. It occupies associate historic Romanesque Revival place of worship building in-built 1853 by Congregation Rodeph Sholom. It’s among the oldest place of worship buildings still standing within the us, the second-oldest place of worship building in ny, and also the oldest still in use within the state.Renovation of the upstairs, completed in 2006, enclosed conservation of the Torah ark, the installation of recent stained-glass windows, and husking the inside of paint to reveal the first wood. The surface was conjointly improved, making a garden for the neighborhood. The place of worship is “[p]ractically next door” to the Clinton St. Baking Company & building. As of 2011, the rabbi was Azriel Siff.
