Qaasuitsup may be a new municipality in Kalaallit Nunaat, operational from one Jan 2009. As of Jan 2010 its population is seventeen,749. The executive center of the municipality is in Ilulissat (formerly referred to as Jakobshavn). The municipality consists of the previous municipalities of western and northern Kalaallit Nunaat, every named when the largest settlement.
The municipality is found in northwestern Kalaallit Nunaat. With a region of 660,000 sq. Km, it’s the biggest municipality within the World by space, larger than France at 643,427 sq. Km. Within the south, it’s flanked by the Qeqqata municipality. Within the southeast, it’s deckled by the Sermersooq municipality, but this border runs north-south (45° West meridian) through the middle of the Kalaallit Nunaat ice sheet (Kalaallisut: Sermersuaq), and in and of itself is freed from traffic. Within the east and northeast it’s deckled by the Northeast Kalaallit Nunaat park.
