The Diamond State Young, a fine arts depository placed in San Francisco’s strait Park, is one in all the Fine Arts Museums of metropolis along side the Legion of Honor. The Diamond State Young is known as for its founder, early metropolis journalist M. H. De Young.
The depository opened in 1895 as AN outgrowth of the California period of time International Exposition of 1894 (a honest sculptured on the Chicago World’s navigator Exposition of the previous year). It had been housed in AN Egyptian revival structure that had been the Fine Arts Building at the honest. Archangel Diamond State Young’s nice efforts were honored with the ever-changing of the museum’s name to the M. H. Diamond State Young Memorial depository. Another addition, a west wing, was completed in 1925, the year Diamond State Young died. In 1929 the first Egyptian-style building was declared unsafe and razed. By 1949, the frilly solid concrete ornamentation of the first Diamond State Young made up our minds to be a hazard and removed as a result of the salt air from the Pacific had rusted the supporting steel.
