Sri Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the main shrine is surrounded by some 58 smaller shrines. It is considered one of the simplest temples of Kanchipuram as it lacks any such ornamentation. The temple is constructed in red sandstone and its walls are adorned with fresco-style paintings and sculptures of lions; Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva and Shiva in various postures and forms.
