Detail InformationEdit
Sri Ranganatha temple is one of the ancient temple of Shimoga district and has historical prominence. A holy cow named Surabhi use to milk the statue of Sri Ranganatha every day while it was sent to feed in the grass land. This was noticed when Surabhi stopped giving milk to its owner. The owner of the cow followed one day and they found out that the cow Surabhi was milking on the statue. The idol was cleaned up and a temple was constructed by a local gowda from halesorba at the bay of river Dandavathi. There is also a inscription written on the stone tower about the temple’s history.
HistoryEdit
Sri Ranganatha Temple is built on the same place where the holy cow used to milk and it is now Soraba’s famous Sri Ranganatha temple. Story says that the temple was built by a local Gowda (Landlord) from Halesoraba on the bay of river Dandavathi. We still have the manuscript written in Old Kannada script on the stone tower near – bay of river Dandavathi. Soraba is also nearest town to Banavasi other than Sirsi, Karnataka which was capital of Kadambas during 9th century.
