Ski is a municipality in Akershus county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Follo. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Ski. Ski was separated from the municipality of Kråkstad on 1 July 1931 to form a separate municipality. The rest of Kråkstad was merged into Ski on 1 January 1964.
The municipality is named after the old Ski farm . The word skeiði is a sideform to skeið which means “running track for horse racing”. Hence, it is not linked to the sport of skiing. The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 19 December 1986. The arms are based on a logo used by the municipality since 1979. Since the name Ski is derived from the old Norse word meaning a field used for horse racing, the arms are canting. The arms show three silver horse heads arranged in a triskelion on a blue background.
