Cerknica is a town and municipality in the Kras region of southwestern Slovenia. It belongs to the traditional region of Inner Carniola. Its best known landmark is Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake, the largest lake in Slovenia, close to the town of Cerknica. Various watersports including windsurfing are popular on the lake.
