Ferwerd (officially, Fries : Ferwert) is a mound village and the chief town of the municipality Ferwerderadeel in the Dutch province of Friesland, and counts about 1870 inhabitants. Het dorp is gelegen aan de N357 tussen Leeuwarden en Dokkum, nabij de Waddenzee en ten westen van het terpdorpje Hogebeintum. The village is situated on the N357 between Leeuwarden and Dokkum, near the Wadden Sea and west of the village mound Hogebeintum.

Ferwerd wordt gekenmerkt door een vijftiende eeuwse kerktoren en het is de geboorteplaats van een van de bekendste Friese schrijvers, Trinus Riemersma. Ferwerd is characterized by a fifteenth century church tower and it is the birthplace of one of the most famous Frisian writers, Trinus Riemersma. Sinds 1999 is de officiele naam van het dorp het Friestalige Ferwert. Since 1999 the official name of the village the Frisian Ferwert.

The steeple of St. Martin since February 20, 2007 updated, or rather restored as it was before. Een restauratie in de jaren dertig van de 20e eeuw had de kerktoren veranderd zoals op deze afbeelding.
