Featuring several buildings and structures from early middle ages, Utrecht, the fourth largest city of Netherlands has been a religious center ever since the 8th century. Home to Utrecht University, which is the largest university in the country, Utrecht hosts the second highest number of cultural events after Amsterdam. Some of the most prominent historic churches which have survived and decorate the Utrecht cityscape include the Dom Church, the Romanesque St. Peter’s and St. John’s churches, and the Gothic St. James and St. Nicholas churches. Recognized as an industrial port-town, Utrecht also allows tourist boat trips from various places on the Oudegracht.Centrally located, the Utrecht Centraal Station forms the main hub of the Dutch railway network and is almost accessible from all stations throughout Netherlands. Like most other Dutch cities, Utrecht also is a great place for walking and bicycling, alongside convenient network of bus and tram services. Fraught with one way streets, traffic-lights, bus-only lanes and extremely expensive parking spaces, moving around in a car while in Utrecht is a bad choice.
