Roorkee is a city in Haridwar district. It is also known for Roorkee Cantonment, one of the country’s oldest cantonments, and the headquarters of Bengal Engineer Group (Bengal Sappers) since 1853. Roorkee is a well known centre of education and research. It is best known for Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (formerly University of Roorkee). It houses many prominent colleges and schools.
