Chamunda Devi Temple, situated on the banks of the beautiful Baner River, is one of the famous temples of the region, which is believed to 750 years old. Dedicated to Goddess Kali, who is the ferocious incarnation of Durga Devi, this temple is located in beautiful ambience. Tourists visiting the temple can also enjoy the beautiful sights of the mountains along with the woody forests of Lahl and Pathiar. According to a legend, it is said that at the site where the temple is constructed, the Goddess Ambika killed the two demons, Munda and Chanda. The main idol kept in this temple is wrapped in a red cloth. This is done so that the devotees are not allowed to touch the deity. In addition, the temple also holds a boulder, which depicts presence of the Lord Shiva in stone lingam form. The temple premises are enshrined with several images of other Gods and Goddess.

Chamunda Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Chamunda, the fearsome incarnation of the Divine Mother. She got the name after killing two demons by the name Chanda and Munda. The temple depicts various scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Devi Mahatmya on its walls. The image of the Goddess is flanked by Hanuman and Bhairava (Shiva). The back of the temple is cave like, wherein rests a lingam under a boulder, that represents Nandikeshwar (Shiva).

Taxi : The nearest railway station is at Pathankot which is around 80 km from Dalhousie. Taxi operators charge around Rs 850 for the trip.
The best option to travel around the town is to hire a car from the point of boarding and keep the vehicle for the duration of the stay. Taxi operators charge around Rs 5200 to Rs 8000 for 3 nights and four days depending on the type of vehicle.

BUS : Bus services by public transport system are available connecting to the towns in and around Dalhousie. Overnight luxury buses are available from Delhi (590 km distance). The bus fare is about Rs 1,500 for AC Volvo.

Train : Nearest railhead is Pathankot (80 km) and is well connected by rail to various cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai and Amritsar. Onward taxi fare from Dalhousie to Pathankot is nearly Rs 1,000.

Air : Nearest airports are Pathankot which is about 80 km from Dalhousie and Jammu at a distance of 180 km from Dalhousie. Pathankot is connected to Delhi only, while Jammu has more frequent air services to Delhi and other destinations in North India. Daily Air India and Jet Airways flights are available from Delhi to Jammu and Amritsar and are economical (Rs 3,000-5,000). Taxi fare from Dalhousie-Pathankot is around Rs 1000.

Others : Dalhousie has retained some of its old world charm and the horse drawn carriages are an example of that. They are a fun way to travel short distance. They may not be very comfortable or clean. The prices are also negotiable.
