Pratteln is a municipality in the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland, located in the district of Liestal. Pratteln is first mentioned around 1102-03 as Bratello. Pratteln has an area, as of 2009, of 10.69 square kilometers (4.13 sq mi). Of this area, 2.95 km2 (1.14 sq mi) or 27.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 3 km2 (1.2 sq mi) or 28.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 4.61 km2 (1.78 sq mi) or 43.1% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.1 km2 (25 acres) or 0.9% is either rivers or lakes and 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 0.4% is unproductive land.
