Erected to commemorate the March 1st, 1949 offensive attack against the Dutch colonial rule when the Indonesian guerrilla fighters succeeded in reoccupying Yogyakarta under the command of the young Colonel Soeharto, the former 2nd President of Republic of Indonesia.
Located on Panembahan Senopati Street, which lies right next to Fort (Benteng) Vredeburg, this depiction of the historic movement is also known as “The Six Hours in Yogyakarta” (Enam Jam di Yogyakarta).
