Gounaropoulos Museum is a museum located in Athens, Greece. It was founded in 1977 in Zografou. Giorgos Gounaropoulos (1890-1977), a Greek painter who was recognized for the special light in his paintings and his personal painting style. In 1978 Giorgos Gounaropoulo’s son donated 40 of his father’s paintings to Municipality of Zografou. One year later the Gounaropoulos Museum was founded. The museum’s building is at Gounaropoulo’s house where he lived, worked and died. In 1990 the museum was expanded. A new building was established next to the first, which is used as an Art and Culture center. Gounaropoulo’s paintings and personal objects are exhibited in the museum and guided tours are offered for visitors and students.
