Velneshwar (Ratnagiri): Velneshwar, a small village 180 kilometers from Ratnagiri district, is the sleepy, village of Velneshwar. Its adjoining beach is clean and natural and is lined with coconut trees. The best thing about this beach is that one can find calm and serenity here. Even though it is almost 180 kilometres from Ratnagiri, it is worth the time and energy. Unlike other beaches, it is not dirty or cluttered with restaurants. Only endless water and the rocky reefs amidst the beautiful village. It is possible to swim there as the beach is free from rocks. There is an old Shiva temple near Velneshwar which is frequently visited by pilgrims; a haven for those in search of quiet mysticism in the ethereal presence of the master mystic – Lord Shiva. Velneshwar, is considered to be the root of the Gokhale, Gadgil, Govande, Savarkar and Velankar families, and houses their family shrine. In midst of several small villages in the district, which are full of issues of landlessness, agricultural problems, improper irrigation, water scarcity and poor transportation system plaguing the people, Velneshwar stands out as a positive one.

By Air : Mumbai Airport is the nearest airport (330 Kms)

By Train : Velneshwar is approximately 330 Kms from Mumbai. The nearest railhead is Chiplun (65 Kms). From Mumbai, it takes almost 3.5 hrs. To reach Chiplun by Konkan railway. From Chiplun’ s Central State Transport Depot, regular buses are available for the town of Guhagar. It takes almost an hour to reach Guhagar which is 45 Kms. Away. From Guhagar bus depot, one can hire an Auto-Rickshaw to Velneshwar (Rs. 300/-). It takes about 30 mins. To cover a distance of 20 Kms.

By Bus : Regular State transport buses are available from Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur up to Guhagar. From Guhagar, local state transport buses for Narvan and Tavsal stop at Velneshwar. Auto-Rickshaw from Guhagar Bus Depot charge Rs. 300/- up to Velneshwar.
