Venur is a village that is located in the Dakshina Kannada District of the State of Karnataka. The place was once a center for Jainism and there are a few interesting sites that are located in and around the village. It is a small village and it is located along the to route. The place is located along the banks of the River Phalguni and it is known for its peaceful and serene environment. The village is famous for a statue of Lord Gomateshwara also known as Bhagawan Bhahubuli. The statue was carved from a single rock and stands at a height of 38 feet. The monolith was made during the time of Timmana Ajila who a Jain ruler. The statue is around 400 years old and was made by Jakaanachari. A head anointing festival takes place from time to time. The place was once the capital city of a Jain Dynasty called Ajila Dynasty. These Ajila kings ruled the place from the 12th century to the 17th century. There are many traces of their rule that can be seen in the surrounding areas. There is a Mahadeva Temple that is located in the village and is an interesting place to visit.
