Detail InformationEdit

Le Grand Rex is the largest cinema, theater and music venue in Paris, with 2,800 seats. An atmospheric theatre, the cinema features a starred “sky” overhead, as well as interior fountains. The cinema is a landmark of Art Deco style architecture. It features the largest screen in Europe, called grand large.
The theatre was built by Jacques Haïk, a wealthy film producer. It was designed by French architect Auguste Bluysen, with Romanian-American architect John Eberson as consulting architect. Ebersen was known for his atmospheric theaters in North America, and for more than three hundred theaters in his career. Construction began in 1931, and the theater opened its doors the following year on the night of December 8. It was used as a “Soldatenkino” (Soldier’s theatre) during the German occupation. It has had protected status since 1981. Situated at 1 Boulevard Poissonnière, 2nd arrondissement of Paris, Le Grand Rex is served by the métro station of Bonne Nouvelle.
The theatre is host to the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival, a six-day event that attracts more than 48,000 attendees and is the most important adventure and discovery film festival in the World each April. In December there is the Féerie des Eaux, an aquatic-themed event featuring 1200 onstage jets of water, centering around a recently released family film.
