4th Street may be a minor street in southern Manhattan, big apple town. It starts at Avenue D as East fourth Street and continues to street, wherever it becomes West fourth Street. It continues west till Sixth Avenue, wherever West fourth Street turns north to run across with West tenth, 11th, 12th, and thirteenth Streets in Greenwich Village. Most of the road has a similar 40-foot (12 m) breadth between curbstones as others within the prevailing street grid, patterned as 2 pavement lanes and one lane, with unidirectional traffic eastward.
The portion from Seventh to Eighth Avenues is westward (northbound geographically) and is or so thirty five feet (11 m) wide, a heritage of the first Greenwich Village street grid. The or so 3 block section of West fourth on the southern border of Washington sq. Park is additionally known as Washington sq. South. The north/south portion was erst known as Asylum Street.
